To Self Publish or To Traditional Publish
...that is the question.
I've been looking into a few ideas on how to get published and there really isn't a clear direction in which to go. Check it out and give me some feedback if you have any!
Self Publish
Pros
I get my book published quickly.
I don't have to spend time writing a proposal, query letter and finding an agent.
I keep 50% of profits on each book.
I keep all control over my book.
Cons
I have to spend the money up front ($1000-$4000)...not pocket change for the Replogle's.
It's not as prestigious.
I have to do more work with marketing (cuz I've got SO much spare time).
Traditional Publish
Pros
They usually pay you up front.
You have an agent that works for you.
Usually sell more books.
It is easier to get a second book published.
Prestige. Prestige. Prestige.
Cons
I loose all control over my book (title, look, words, etc.)
Only about 1% of new authors get signed.
It sometimes takes up to 4-6 years to get anything published...if at all.
I only keep on average 10% of profits on each book (and then my agent will get 15% of my profit )
Now where is that Easy button when you need it?
I will lead the blind by ways they have not known,
along unfamiliar paths I will guide them;
I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth.
These are the tings I will do;
I will not forsake them.
